Gloucester Moose Family Center Steps Up
Gloucester Moose Family Center Lodge 886 is an integral part of its community.
We not only support local non-profits along with our fraternal obligations, but, also are a part of Gloucester's emergency management team in times of natural disaster. In late September of this year, we watched as hurricane Joaquin gained strength (up to a Cat.4) and headed for the mid- Atlantic region of the US coastline. On Thur. Oct.1st, Jane Wenner, the Public Awareness and Outreach Coordinator of Gloucester County Emergency Management called to inform me that the Gloucester CERT(Community Emergency Response Team) had been activated. For our part, this meant that our GUEST(Gloucester United Emergency Service Team) house would be home to six Va. National Guardsmen and that Jane Wenner and her team would direct assets from our 10,000 sq ft Ball Room.
The Guardsmen arrived on Fri. Oct. 2nd and Ms Wenner’s team on sat. Oct.3rd. where they remained monitoring Joaquin until instructed to stand down at 8:00 am on Mon. Oct. 5th. Although no CERT assets were needed for THIS storm, Gloucester Emergency Management and Gloucester Moose Family Center were prepared to respond and will be prepared to respond again in the future! GO MOOSE!
